SHIVA CHARITY......... REBUILDING DJDOODLE SCHOOL AFTER THE TSUNAMI

Rebuilding DJDoodle School needed extra care and thought, as the community in the area had lost so much. Karaitivu, Ampara, Sri Lanka is a poor area, mostly Hindu, and the people there have known me and the project manager for three years. The original school was small, with a corrugated iron roof.

Plenty of rubble to clear, and a well to knock down.

It survived the tsunami, but the children were all lost. We decided that the old building would be completely renovated, and made into a little reading room, while a new building would be constructed next to it. This meant that the old well and wash places had to be knocked down and relocated.

Cement has to be mixed by hand.

The roof has to be replaced and tiled.
